Fortaleza - Great Location on the Atlantic Coast...
Fortaleza is blessed with a wonderful location on the northeast coast of Brazil. Set right alongside the South Atlantic enjoying warm trade winds all year long.
Fortaleza was discovered by the Spanish explorer; Vincente Pinzon but colonization was down to the Portuguese, and later the Dutch - although the Portuguese were to prevail eventually. Culture in Fortaleza is rich and diverse and was the location of Brazil's first Academy of Letters, and various literary movements blossomed here, the most important being the ¨Spiritual Bakery¨ which espoused and introduced to Brazil, among other themes, realism and naturalism.
Fortaleza and Ceara have a strong folk tradition (as has many parts of Brazil). Most noteworthy are some of the music, song and dance manifestations, such as; Bumba meu Boi which focuses on the adoration of the ox. Whilst violeiros, cantadores and emboladores express and manifest social criticisms. And finally in this section - Fortaleza has some of Brazil's best beaches, such as; Canoa, Quebrada, Jericoara and Praia de Futuro.

Fortaleza....Is a great place to volunteer and indeed visit. We have a street children project there which would really appreciate your prescence - if you would like to apply for our street kids volunteering program in Fortaleza - click here - mention that you would like to be based in Fortaleza on your application, as we also have street children projects in Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
One last point regarding volunteering in and visiting Fortaleza is that all the regular|major airlines have scheduled flights daily to Fortaleza (possible change at Rio or Sao Paulo). However, if you are coming direct from the United Kingdom we have a partnership with a very reasonably priced charter flight agent who can arrange your direct flight for often 1/3 of the usual scheduled price. There are restrictions, but it's a huge saving.
