Our Health Volunteer Program is unrivalled in Brazil, indeed, we believe the wide-ranging healthcare opportunites afforded on our program are amongst the best in the world - in terms of offering insight, knowledge and practical first-hand experience of healthcare and medicine in a developing country.
Why the placement needs you!
If you are a medical student or a healthcare professional, you can contribute directly to your area. Help is needed in general medicine, community health -care, pharmacy, nursing, nutrition ,social work, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dentistry, accident and emergency and maternity. But if you have a desire to work in the community healthcare sector, but have no experience, this is also a wonderful opportunity to work on a worthwhile project.
What kind of skills do I need?
It is essential to be good with people - patient, understanding and friendly, Commitment and enthusiasm are also important qualities.
Your Role as a Volunteer
Medical students will participate in health awareness campaigns and prevention, and generally assist nursing and other staff. Medical professionals will attend to families and children in their specified area, and give general help. Volunteers without experience but who have an interest or desire to work in the Health Sector can also fully participate in this program. Our General Healthcare Project is in partnership with both Olinda and Recife Health Departments, and depending on your interest and experience you will be assisting in either a community health centre or a hospital. Each health centre or hospital is situated in a very poor area, known as a Favela, and is run on a day to day basis by a team of healthcare professionals and volunteers. Medical students, and qualified health professsionals are very welcome as volunteers on our health project, but, if you havent any experience or qualifications in this area you may still apply as there is a need for auxillary workers too.
