Information about Maceio in Alagoas

Maceio is the capital of the State of Alagoas, it has a great location on the Atlantic coast, with a population of about 1 million people.

Maceio is an important economic and cultural city, and has an international airport - also having excellent Brazilian city flight connections.

   

The climate is tropical and in addition to having a tropical rainforest has many unique cultural traditions. Such as; folk art, dance, such as The Fandango, whcih is accompanied bu the guitar and ukulele. Also look out for the Carnival Bull... 

      

There are some splendid beaches around Maceio, the most famous being; Praia do Francês (French Beach), Dunas de Marapé (Dunes of Marapé) Nove Ilhas (Nine Islands). 

      

The State of Alagoas lies between the states of Segipe and Pernambuco; also bordering Bahia.

The southern border of Alagoas is characterized by the San Francisco River.

In fact, it is from the lagoons came the state name, which, in the 16th century, was invaded by the French and Portuguese who were searching for pau-brazil (a type of wood).
