Volunteering in Brazil Feeedback

hey Alan things are amazing! its amazing here and i would recommend it anyone. the kids are amazing and each of them is so happy and playful. everyday we play and have fun. im starting to get the launguage aswell being constantly surrounded by it. its okay if someones talking directly to me but if their talking around me it goes over my head. but its okay tho because i know whats going on most of the time. but like i said everything is amazing, the scenery, the kids and the staff are also really good. they really help me and help explain things if needs be. had a massive futsol tournament last night and im paying for it now. my feet are in pain but it was worth it. am really enjoying my experience here just cant believe how quick the days are going. hope everything is well with you. and thank you for this, i cant describe how happy i am here.

Chris, Recife (Street Kids Program).

Here is a testimonial from Emily Roseler who volunteered with her 2 year old daughter (on our orphanage program)

Volunteer Brazil provided me and Afton with very appropriate accommodation for my situation. The location in Recife was excellent, with good access to everything.

The beaches around the Recife coast are beautiful, and we went there quite a lot with the orphanage girls.

I will be coming back, for sure - thank you Alan ,Mirian and staff of Volunteer Brazil , so much for your hospitality.

Emily Roseler, Recife.

The orphanage project has meant so much to me. The children are fantastic and they are very happy with the little provisions that they have and they are always smiling, except when one of them is smell (if you know what i mean) . In many ways they have taught me so much about myself, and made me value even more my up bringing.

I work from 8-12:30 which is fantastic. I spend most of my time with the babies and it is so wonderful, they each have their own quirky mannerisms which you will pick up on. There are about 25 children all together and their round the clock care and supervision is shared between very few workers, but who are all again so happy and full of energy, and they give the children so much love. It is an amzing atmosphere to be involved in and work in, I will be very sad to leave but hope to carry on the work in to the future an I would love to visit again.....and again. I urge anyone who wants to experience, fun, craziness, excitement , love, kindness and breathtaking moments, to come to recife and do a volunteer project, it will make some of the best memories you could ever ask for, i have already made so many.

Sarah Impey ,Recife.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for everything that you have done for me since I have been here.

I have had the most life – changing experience here , not to mention a lot of fun ! I came here to volunteer but instead I have found my lifes plan. I am returning to the UK to train to work with disadvantaged chidlren in London – and its all thanks to you!

You have all inspired me more than I could ever describe – your attitudes , your kindness and your continous smiles. I hope that I will be able to take a little bit of you and “Tortura Nunca Mais” back home with me.

What you do is absolutely amazing! And I have been honoured to be a part of it.

I will miss you all like crazy.

Volunteering on our  Health Project in Brazil

Brazil is a brilliant country to volunteer in because everyone is just so accomodating even though our Portuguese didn´t stretch much beyond thankyou, a bit of flapping around, and many grins! Brazilian children are the easiest in the world to make friends with.

...the favelas don´t have a depressing atmosphere: music radiates from many and kids run from family to family giggling without a frown to be seen.

Volunteering in an Orphanage

The boys really touched me and I would very much like to help them further by raising money for equipment and educational materials. I am currently undergoing training at a charity that helps the children of alcoholics, this will enable me to help take calls on their helpline, and hopefully give me a better insight into what the children in Brazil need in terms of support. I have several fundraising ideas, but would like some guidance from you as to how we can put everything into practice and the best way of ensuring that the money raised is used in a way that will most benefit the children.

Alison, Bristol, England.

¨Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you...I have just this minute got in through the door, when the phone rang, it was the headmaster from the school, offering me the postion....I am sure that it was my time volunteering in Brazil that swung it¨...

The above is an extract from an email we received from Samantha in London.

Samantha spent a couple of months with us , volunteering on one of our childrens projects. She had graduated the previous summer, and was so unsure of what to do with her life.

Her placement, decided her direction...

When she returned to ¨London Town¨ it was, all- systems-go; phone calls, letters, more phone calls, and even more letters. Anyway, to cut the chase, she secured a post as a teaching assistant in one of the toughest inner-city schools in London (yikes - good luck, Sam).

And in her own words ¨I am sure that it was my time volunteering in Brazil that swung it¨

Samantha, London.

Historical Preservation

On Monday morning I was brought to the Federal University of Pernambuco and introduced to the head archaeologist and shown around the School of Archaeology. I was informed I had a choice of projects, (grateful to know there was competition for my services)...

...and was met at the airport by staff from the volunteerbrazil organisation and was taken to my hotel. I was in touch with the volunteer hosts all during my stay, which was very reassuring.

Thanks to volunteerbrazil.com , the Project staff, the Federal University, the other volunteers, and most of all the Brazilian people.

Thanks, I will be back , soon.

John, Ireland.

Volunteering With Youth

I just wanted to say thanks for your help and that I had a wonderful volunteering experience while in Brazil. The children at the center were amazing, as were Brazilians in general.

Danielle. California.

My three weeks volunteering at an orphanage were unforgettable. It was a challenge to work with so few material resources and with kids who had had such tumultous pasts.

But we learned to be creative in designing activities,
and to have patience and great respect for these girls and young women who had been through so much already in their lives (they made me put my own in perspective).

Not only did I come to love every one of them very much, but
they helped me better understand the situations of many more children in Brazil and all over the world.

Ann Erickson, California.

What fantastic kids, appearing to have nothing at first glance but laughed, smiled, sang and danced all the time and in my opinion had a richness in their life that we simply seem to have lost in the western world with our hectic lifestyles.
